van gogh at work
To coincide with Van Gogh & Britain at the Tate Gallery, jewellery designers represented by At Work Gallery were invited to respond the brief: “I am always doing what I cannot do yet in order to learn how to do it” Vincent van Gogh.
I used this opportunity to learn to carve a face in wax; something I’d not attempted before. The breath is symbolic for inspiration, so I thought this cherub face breathing Van Gogh’s sweeping starry night sky was apt . I don’t use a lot of texture in my work normally, so this was an exciting development. The wax was cast in silver and the small 18Ct gold star details were added later.
